The five cuts on this page split cleanly into two arguments. The softshells are for wind: the face holds it off, which is what turns a dry forty degrees back into a dry forty degrees rather than something worse, and the five pockets, two at the hand, two on the chest and one inside, are why they get worn to the shops as much as to a course. The lightweight quarter zip vests are for carrying rather than for weather: thin enough to fold into a bag pocket and forget until an exposed nine turns cold.

Water-resistant is the honest description of what the softshell face does, and it is worth being exact about it. It sheds dew off the first fairway and sees you through the ten minutes before you reach the cart. It is not a rain shell, there is no taped seam behind it, and nothing on this page is sold as one. Sixteen colourways across the five cuts, prices $19.95 to $41.95, and the run is S to 3XL throughout. Take your polo letter: a vest sized up flaps at the armhole on a swing, which defeats the whole point of wearing one.

Every colourway here is priced on its own. Michel Rouen pieces keeps the figures current and the till is what decides.

Questions about Michel Rouen Golf Vests

Warm where it matters, free where it does not

Will a Michel Rouen golf vest keep you dry in rain?

No. The softshell face is water-resistant, which means dew and a passing shower, not a downpour: there is no taped seam behind it. If the forecast is rain rather than damp, this is the wrong layer and we would rather say so.

How many pockets does the Michel Rouen softshell vest have?

Five: two hand pockets, two on the chest and one inside. That is the reason this cut gets worn away from a course more than anything else we make.

Why would you wear a Michel Rouen vest instead of a jacket?

Because sleeves are what get in the way. A vest holds heat over the core and leaves the shoulders and elbows free, so nothing bunches at the top of the backswing.
